J Dilla is King. Long live the King.

I sorta want to see just how long I could go listening to nothing but J Dilla.

Listening to a scrap compilation titled ‘Old Donuts’ (really just an old beat sample tape Dilla once distributed to record labels, from what I can gather) makes it feel like I could listen to this dude’s shit forever and not even miss other music.

I know he’s dead and in the ground for a number of years now, but I’ll be damned if I don’t actually feel like I’m listening to part of my own soul when I spin these jams.

I had my Citizen Dick t-shirt for something like THIRTEEN YEARS. Absurd.

First CD I ever owned?

I swear I’ve told this story online before, but …

‘Twas a Pearl Jam Live in Italy disc. I got the CD for my 14th birthday in August, yet didn’t get a CD player until Christmas that year, heh.

My orthodontist shared my taste in music, so he was kind enough to dub the CD to a blank cassette for me since I lent him the disc for the three weeks between my appointments. Unfortunately for me, he neglected to flip the tape over when it ran out, meaning that the one song that didn’t end up dubbed was, at the time, my favorite song —- “Alive.”
